Information regarding lodgement of Notice of Intended Marriage

Some legal requirements:

    •      A Notice of Intended Marriage must be lodged a minimum of 1 month and 1 day prior to ceremony, and is valid for 18 months (after which a new form must be lodged).
    •      If born in Australia, original birth certificates must be provided (copies will not be accepted). If born overseas, original birth certificate must be presented or a current overseas passport, should birth certificate not be available.
    •      If either party has been previously married, evidence of dissolution, death or nullification must be provided.
    •      If either party does not speak or understand English, then an interpreter must be present at every meeting, and the ceremony. For any legal documentation the interpreter must be a NAATI accredited practitioner. ( a link has been provided).

    Things to bring to initial meeting:
        1      Birth Certificates
        2      Evidence of dissolution, death or nullification (if previously married)
        3      If name changed by deed poll, the necessary papers.

    If you are requiring a spouse visa or fiance visa (dependent on the circumstances) then we can discuss a letter to the Immigration Department once the NOIM has been lodged.
